Pitter Patter Explores the Struggles of Coexistence in New Single "Oh Possum!"

East Coast outfit Pitter Patter blends sonic allure with a sharp lens on modern life in their latest single, "Oh Possum!" This track brings heart-on-sleeve Midwest emo together with a pop-infused mix of indie and alternative rock, showcasing the band’s diverse range of influences.

Built on intricate guitars and raw, introspective lyricism, "Oh Possum!" delves into life’s daily challenges. Lead vocalist Seth Berkin explains:

"The main message in this song is that some things are out of your control—unfair aspects of life—but we’re all here doing our best to make the most of the life we’re given."

The title is just as thought-provoking, with Berkin adding:

"There are plenty of animal references in the track. Possums, for instance, face constant struggles to coexist with humans—they’re exterminated, hit by cars, and often misunderstood. At the time of writing, I was battling extreme anxiety, struggling to coexist in my own way."

A Deep Dive into Pitter Patter’s Sound

Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pitter Patter first made waves with their 2022 single "treehouse," a standout track from their debut album Naturally Selected. The record, released in fall 2022, offered a hook-laden, modern alternative sound with poignant lyricism softened by sunny pop melodies. Fans of Young Culture, Between You & Me, and Old Neon will find much to love in Pitter Patter’s ability to balance emotional depth with infectious energy.

"Oh Possum!" marks the band’s first release of 2024, steering further into Midwest emo territory while retaining their signature indie rock tones. With twinkling guitars and candid lyrics, the single takes a relatable, unvarnished look at human coexistence, wrapped in a vibrant instrumental backdrop.
