Dream Unending and Worm, two towering figures in the metal music scene, have come together to close out the year with a monumental joint release titled "Starpath."
This collaboration, marking the third consecutive year-end release at 20 Buck Spin, cements their status as doom metal champions.
Dream Unending, revered for their unique blend of doom metal, continues to evolve with their latest tracks, "So Many Chances" and "If Not Now When."
These songs showcase a departure from their goth and post-punk elements, leaning towards a more expansive, free-form approach.
The extended guitar passages, heavy riffs, and Justin DeTore's thunderous roar exemplify the band's growth. Their sound is further enriched by the return of Phil Swanson, who previously featured on "Song Of Salvation," adding depth with his clean vocals. These tracks represent the band’s most realized vision yet, under the skillful guidance of Derrick Vella and Justin DeTore.
Worm, on the other hand, continues to redefine black metal with their shape-shifting sound. Their contribution to "Starpath" includes the vampyric black metal track "Ravensblood," notable for its icy keys and haunting melodies. "Midwinter Tears" envelops listeners in a gothic, snow-covered ambience, while "Sea Of Sorrow" showcases the necromantic guitar work of Wroth Septentrion, paired with Phantom Slaughter's unique blend of black doom. Their music is a journey through dark, cryptic realms, offering a stark contrast to Dream Unending's introspective doom.
Together, Dream Unending and Worm present over twenty minutes of new music on "Starpath," each crafted specifically for this release. The album is a testament to their distinct styles—Dream Unending’s radiant, impassioned creation and Worm’s exploration of the abyssic darkness. "Starpath" not only solidifies their positions in their respective genres but also highlights the common ground they share, despite their musical differences. This release is a significant milestone, showcasing the depth and diversity within the metal community.
